Russell and Associates supports Saxonwold Primay School

Jubilation was written on the faces of Saxonwold Primary School’s pupils when Russell and Associates donated sporting equipment on 20 March 2009.

When Werner Smit, a Russell and Associates employee, came up with a suggestion to start a soccer team, little did he know that it would benefit more than just his colleagues.

Russell and Associates does not have a field for its team to practice and play matches on. The school, which is nearby, was approached and kindly agreed to let the company use its soccer pitch for practice sessions after learners had gone home. Russell and Associates, in return, offered the school sponsorship options and the principal, Marion Wheater, selected sports gear.

The equipment donated included rugby balls, hockey sticks, water bottles and exercise mats. The elated children could not wait to try out the new equipment.

An elated Werner Smit said, "Something simple and fun turned into something highly inspirational. We lit the soccer fire in the school; soon after we started our practice sessions the children also started bringing soccer balls and practiced when we did, it felt so good".

More information on the school may be found at www.saxonwoldprimary.co.za.
